Many people try acupuncture to help with specific symptoms or because they generally feel unwell and often have no obvious diagnosis. Others choose to simply enhance their feeling of wellbeing so here at Binks Acupuncture, we see you as an individual and our aim is to restore you back to your optimum health.

Acupuncture is considered suitable for all ages. I can be used effectively alongside conventional medicine and is safe (with a less than 1 in 10,000 risk of a serious adverse reaction).

Acupuncture has been developing for over 2500 years in China. Since its introduction into the UK a wealth of experience and research has contributed to its successful practice, allowing a wide range of diseases and conditions to be effectively treated.

This technique works by inserting fine needles into specific points. An acupuncturist can stimulate these points to activate your bodies own healing response system and help restore its natural balance.

Tui Na and Therapeutic massage
Tui Na is a hands on body treatment that uses martial art principles. It can involve brushing, kneeding, rolling/pressing and rubbing the areas between each of the bodies joints. This will encourage the energy to move in the meridians and in the muscles.

Therapeutic massage along with along with acupressure (stimulation of points without the use of needles) can also be used.

What to expect
Most of my patients find acupuncture very relaxing. The needles are very fine and bear no resemblance to those used in blood testing. Sometimes there is a slight sensation when the needles are inserted, this is a good sign that the treatment is working. The needles are usually left in place for 20 minutes.

I am a highly trained acupuncturist with a broad knowledge of Western Medicine. I have been working with patients and local GPs for over 14 years gaining experience in treating a wide of conditions.

My first encounter with acupuncture happened in 1997 when I injured my back and was taken to hospital. I was prescribed painkillers, anti-inflammatories and told to rest. After a few weeks I soon realised orthodox treatments were not going to help me.

After making a few enquiries and consulting with my doctor I decided to book myself in for a Chiropractic treatment I had gradual improvement in my mobility and pain levels. However a had a lot of weakness, pain and aching in my lower back. At this point I was told I may have more luck with acupuncture.

After being very worried about the needles I decided to give it a go. My scepticism wasn't justified as I made a significant recovery. From that day I have been fascinated with the medicine and culture surrounding it. I then enrolled at the Northern College of Acupuncture in York (this is one of the most respected colleges in the country) where I studied a 4 year post graduate diploma in acupuncture. I graduated in 2001.

Since graduating I decided to go on my travels working in as many different acupuncture clinics as I could, broadening my skills and patient experience as I went.
