My story
In 1997 I injured my back quite severely in an accident at work. After seeing a specialist at hospital I was prescribed painkillers, anti-inflammatories and rest as there was very little they could do to help me. After a few weeks I had only made a slight improvement to the pain and discomfort. After follow-up visits to my local doctor I realised orthodox treatments were not going to help me, but I couldn’t put up with the pain for the rest of my life.
After making a few enquires and consulting with my doctor I decided to book myself in for a chiropractic treatment, at the time I had only had the vaguest idea what it entailed. After a few ‘crunches and clicks’ I had gradual improvement in my mobility and pain levels. I continued along with this treatment for a while hoping for a cure, but I was still left with a lot of weakness and aching around my lower back. At this point I was told I might have more luck with acupuncture!
After being very hesitant and worried about the needles I decided to give it a go. My sceptism wasn’t justified as I made a significant recovery, and from that day I have been fascinated with the medicine and the culture surrounding the Chinese. After reading numerous books and articles I decided to take it one step further and enrolled at the Northern College of Acupuncture in York (one of the most respected colleges for Acupuncture in the country) where I studied a four-year postgraduate diploma in acupuncture and graduated in 2001.

Since graduating I decided to go on my travels working in as many different acupuncture clinics as I could, broadening my skills and patient experience as I went.
